Most Americans do not breathe
from their diaphragm. They breathe from their scalenes (primarily) and
intercostals (secondary). Just getting someone to breathe from their
diaphragm on purpose can be a huge step forward.Activity

1. Write a few sentences reflecting on your experience.

Diaphragmatic breathing (also called "abdominal breathing" or "belly breathing") encourages full oxygen exchange — that is, the beneficial trade of incoming oxygen for outgoing carbon dioxide. Not surprisingly, this type of breathing slows the heartbeat and can lower or stabilize blood pressure.

5. Share a brief reflection on your experience.
1. After completing the four complete breaths, I felt a relaxed feeling overcome my body. Also, it was interesting sensation to feel my stomach and ribcage fully expand during the breaths, as this does not happen when normally breathing.
ReplyDelete2. Pranayama is a Sanskrit word, broken into two parts "prana" and "yama". It is often translated to mean "mastery of the life force". Pranayama helps us access this universal potential.
3. Physically, pranayama helps us open our lungs to their greatest potential and empty them completely through complete breathing. Physiologically, a daily pranayama practice stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system. Pranayama will also emotionally alter your emotional patterns, helping you avoid anger and be a more relaxed individual. Lastly, when paired with meditation, pranayama will spiritually help you connect to inner stillness and achieve balance.
4. After following along with Michelle Dalbec's breathing exercise, I could feel myself becoming relaxed and very aware of how my body felt. My mind was effectively cleared and I sunk into the chair I was sitting in as all my muscles softened.
1. after watching the presentation and learning how to do the complete breath I gave it a try. My initial reaction from trying it is that my body feels a little lighter as I allow myself to be more relaxed. I also feel like my body (especially my chest) is opening up which is a nice feeling to have.
ReplyDelete2. Pranayama is the art and science of yogic breathing techniques
3. Physically you are using 3 sections of your breathing apparatus and exhaling longer than you are inhaling. It also empties the lungs. Psychological you are benefited with a de-relaxer relieving stress in the body. The psycho emotional effect is that it helps to prevent the continuation of breathing patterns that change up on emotion. Spiritually it is like an antenna connected to the universe and turns it into tangible real energy you can create
4. Doing the upward salute a few times I actually felt a little crack in my chest. I don’t know what to explain it but my body just feels peaceful when I do the movement and right after as well.

1) Activity: 4 Complete Breaths
watching and learning about the complete breath definitely changed my idea of how such a simple task such as breathing could be done correctly. All my life i would breath starting at my chest as opposed to with my diaphragm. After just a few short breaths I could feel why this method was more beneficial. The breath although making me focus on my breathing felt somewhat more natural then the way I have been bresathing my whole life.
2) Pranayama is an art of proper yogic breathing that if done correctly can clear your mind, lighten your heart, and intern create a better sense of well being and physical health.
3) In a Physical sense Pranayama uses 3 sections of your respiratory system allowing for more inhaling than you are exhaling. This process opens the lungs allowing more oxygen to get delivered . It also empties the lungs of impurities and other harmful toxins. Psychologically Pranayama breathing is able to change your bodies nervous system in the long term allowing for better mood and overall state of mind. The psycho emotional effects is shown with a more stable mood and avoid anger. Spiritually this type of yoga can connect you with an inner spiritualness and with energy from the universe you can user in your everyday life.
4) The upward salute breathing technique felt very natural a right as soon as I did it for the first time. My whole upper torso felt stretched out and open especially inside my chest which ive never felt before.
1. After doing this breathing exercise, I was able to connect with my body more and calm down my nerves. I felt relaxed and content in the moment while feeling loose and calmer afterwards.
ReplyDelete2. Pranayama is in plain words, in the process of controlling your breathing during yoga, or even throughout your day. It is a form of breathing that teaches relaxation and control.
3. Pranayama has many impacts on our bodies that can effect our attitude later in our way or life. Physically, it helps us to open up our lungs and take in as much air as we can slowing our heart and controlling our nerves to a steady rate. Physiologically, practicing pranayama, will impact your outlook on life and help you with the attitude that you ago about your day with, giving a more positive impact. Psychoemotionally, this can help you connect with yourself internally and create a more positive image of yourself from within.
4. This activity was really relaxing to do because it helped me relax and feel my body. To take everything in and let it out was something i felt I needed to do today and it helped me with my levels of stress.
5. Personally, meditation has always been something that has been a bit of a challenge for me. I am typically unable to stay 100 percent focused and end up tuning in and out. However, while I tried to stay focused. I did enjoy doing this exercise overall.

ReplyDelete1. After doing the breath exercises, I instantly felt more calm and collected. I was in a much more relaxed state of mind. I have had to do a lot of breathing exercises in my past due to my anxiety, so I know how beneficial breathing tactics are.
2. Pranayama is an important component of yoga. It is basically “breath control”. It helps strengthen the connection between one’s mind and body.
3. Pranayama allows one to inhale more than exhale while breathing. It allows the lungs to expand for more oxygen to enter the body. The spiritual aspect of Pranayama allows people to connect to the universe and feel a greater, more positive energy. Pranayama also connects emotionally as it can alter how you feel and usually will put you in a happier state. Physiologically, practicing Pranayama will stimulate your nervous systems. Pranayama also has to do with psychology because it relaxes your mind. Physically, Pranayama will make your body feel better as a whole.
4. After doing this exercise, I felt more intact with my body and felt more “free” and “easy going”.
5. Since i have previous experience with breathing exercises and meditation, I have never been able to fully meditate as my mind often wanders elsewhere, but it still makes me feel more connected to myself when I have zero distractions.
